Prices and grants
How much does a new boiler cost in Dublin?
A like-for-like gas boiler replacement in Dublin typically costs €2,200–€3,300 fully installed with VAT, a new combi €2,500–€4,500 and a system boiler with a cylinder €2,600–€4,900 (GB Gas Services, 19 October 2026). Dublin installers' lowest published packages start from about €1,850.
How much is a new combi?
€2,500–€4,500 fully installed with VAT, from GB Gas Services (19 October 2026).
How much to switch to a combi?
€3,100–€3,850 from Dublin Plumbing & Gas, or about €600–€1,200 on top of a straight swap from GB Gas Services.
Is there a grant for a new gas boiler?
No. The Better Energy Homes Scheme does not cover replacing a gas or oil boiler with a new gas or oil boiler. That's from Citizens Information (page edited 22 October 2026). The €700 SEAI heating controls grant may apply if the home was built and occupied before 2011. The bigger grants are for heat pumps: up to €14,500 for a house, including €2,000 for scrapping the old boiler.
What does the heat pump grant come to?
Up to €14,500 for a house: €6,500 heat pump, €4,000 renewable heat bonus, €2,000 central heating upgrades and €2,000 boiler scrappage.
The work
Who can fit a gas boiler?
Only a Registered Gas Installer (RGI). It's the law in Ireland. Check any installer on rgi.ie.
How long does a boiler replacement take?
A straight swap in the same spot is usually a day. Moving the boiler or converting to a combi takes longer.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. The RGI gives you a completion certificate for the gas work. Keep it with the boiler's warranty papers.
Do I need to service the new boiler?
Yes, usually every year by an RGI. Most warranties depend on it.
Repair or replace?
Repair a younger boiler with a one-off fault. Think about replacing one that's 15 years or older, breaking down often, or facing a big repair. Dublin Gas Boilers says a well-maintained boiler can last 15–20 years.
Can I keep my hot water cylinder?
Yes. A system boiler works with a cylinder. That suits houses with several bathrooms, and a cylinder is also what a heat pump uses.
