Most Lucan boiler replacements are a 1980s or 1990s gas boiler in Esker: 9,974 of Lucan's 17,735 households are in the Esker division, 64% of its homes were built between 1981 and 2000, and 86% heat with gas (Census 2022). GB Gas Services, which lists Lucan, publishes €2,200–€3,300 for a like-for-like replacement, incl. VAT.
On the same price page a new combi is €2,500–€4,500 and a system boiler with a cylinder €2,600–€4,900, incl. VAT. No grant pays for a new gas boiler.
Esker's 1990s boilers are the bulk of the work
Lucan is four Census divisions, and one of them is most of the town. Esker has 9,974 households: 64% of its homes were built from 1981 to 2000 and 86% heat with gas, one of the highest gas shares anywhere in Dublin. A 1990s boiler that's still the original is 25 to 35 years old.
The other three are different. St Helens, which takes in Adamstown, is 37% built since 2011. Lucan Heights is the older edge, 56% built 1961 to 1980, and 25% of its homes heat with oil. And Lucan houses are big: 31% of households have four or more bedrooms, 49% in Lucan Heights.

The €700 heating controls grant applies to homes built and occupied before 2011, which is 85% of Lucan's homes, with approval before any work. A heat pump instead gets up to €14,500 for a house.
